What is a root canal?

Root Canal Treatment is a treatment that is used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. During the treatment the nerves and the pulp are removed from the infected tooth and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.

  • Placing a rubber dam around the tooth, to keep the area dry and free of saliva during the treatment.
  • A key hole is drilled into the tooth, the pulp along with the related debris are removed.
  • A series of root canal files of increasing diameter are subsequently placed on the access hole and worked down the full length of the tooth for shaping the root canal.
  • The tooth is thoroughly cleaned and sealed.
  • After sealing a temporary filling is placed, this will protect the work performed.
  • After completing the treatment, there are some additional work. A permanent restoration is the final step to complete the treatment.
